The History of the Society of St Vincent de Paul in St Petersburg Diocese
The first Conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul was formed at St Paul Parish in St Petersburg on April 22, 1931. Again on April 22nd a year later Sacred Heart Conference in Tampa was founded. The area would not see another Conference for 22 years with St Jude Parish in St Petersburg; they would become the Cathedral on June 17, 1968. It would be another 6 years in 1960, when St Patrick in Tampa would form a Conference.
Our Lady of Lourdes in Dunedin; St Cecelia, and Light of Christ in Clearwater; Holy Family, St Petersburg; St Lawrence in Tampa and St John Vianney, St Pete Beach were started in the 60’s. The 1970’s saw only 4 new Conferences with the forming of Corpus Christi, Tampa; Holy Cross in St Petersburg and St Catherine of Sienna and Espiritu Santo in Clearwater.
